Bunk In Exploration

The Endwell Fire District is seeking input from those who may be interested in the development of a student bunk-in program. Aimed at college students living away from home, this program is being designed for students while they are actively attending college.

Our department responds to about 500 calls a year utilizing 3 stations that cover 7 square miles. The bunk-in program provides room and board to students during the academic year in exchange for scheduled duty hours to support the department.

Requirements include:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Previous Firefighting experience.
  • Have BEFO, IFO certificate or Firefighter I equivalent.
  • Active member and in good standing with home department.
  • Attend weekly training sessions.
  • Attend fire and emergency training as required by New York State, or the Endwell Fire Department.
  • Additional requirements may be added as the development of this program evolves.

All Bunk-ins will be required to enter into a written contract with the Endwell Fire Department stipulating requirements, duties and responsibilities. Bunk-ins will be expected to respond to all emergency alarms when in quarters unless it is 60 minutes or less before class or employment.

Those interested in the program or wish to provide comments, suggestion or feedback are asked to contact Fire Commissioner Michael Lewis via email at mlewis@endwellfire.com.
