A car collided with a utility pole on Wayne Street near Hayes Avenue late Friday night, causing a temporary loss of power to some neighborhood residents, state police at Endwell said.
A 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier with three occupants was eastbound on Wayne Street about 11:30 p.m. when the car hit a patch of ice and skidded into the utility pole, snapping it in half, troopers said. As the pole fell, it pulled down a second utility pole with a transformer that fell onto the Catalyst Manufacturing Services building on Wayne Street, troopers said. Neighbors said they heard the transformer explode. The building sustained some damage, troopers said.
The car's driver, who was not identified, was not injured, but two passengers were taken to a hospital, troopers said. The car ended up in a nearby drainage canal.
