On August 3, 2003, Endwell Firefighters
were called to Endwell Rug on George F Hwy in Endwell after a report of the
building filling with smoke. Due to the fact that the building is located
just beyond the hydrant zone in Endwell and the size and contents of the
building, tankers from East Maine, Choconut Center and Union Center were called
in to assist with additional water. Fortunately the fire was a slow,
smoldering one and was quickly extinguished. It was found to be as a
result of an electrical short circuit in a sign on the side of the
building.
